There are more boys than girls in the class and most of the students are outgoing and active.  There are 40 students in the class and they are equally divided into 10 groups. Analysis of the  The topic is about sports, which is close to our daily life. Students are students’ learning familiar with the subject. ability  It is the first time for them to learn linking words in a systematical and organized way.  Students have learned about some simple, easy expressions about sports but haven’t mastered some high-class vocabulary about this subject.  Before writing, students have learned the text “The story of Atlanta” in the previous lesson, which is concerned with the sport “running” and the Olympic Games. This text helps students know more about the subject. Teaching material  Besides, the writing task has provided some instructions for students to think about: how did you become interested in that sport? who is your favourite athlete? what do you do to improve your skill? Students are able to divert their thinking with the guidance. After this writing class, students are able to: 1. Write a short passage about their favorite sports from three aspects, i.e. the name of the sport, the reasons for choosing this sport and the future plan for this favorite sport; Teaching objectives 2. Master the use of two kinds of linking words, i.e. sequential linking words and progressive linking words; 3. In the part of talking about reasons, replace some ordinary expressions into high-class expressions;  In the part of talking about reasons, reinterpret students’ expressions into high-class expressions by orally repeating students’ answers with The teaching focus target expressions teachers have expected;  Explain two kinds of linking words with a sample writing;  Guide the students to brain-storm the reasons for choosing a specific sport with high-class expressions; The teaching difficulty  Enable the students to use the two kinds of linking words into their passage properly; Teaching procedures

Warming-up Step 1 7 min 1. Goals:  Students are able to have a better understanding of the topic by showing them a video about the sports.  By discussing various reasons why students like their favorite sports, students are able to get familiar with the sports and know more about the positives and benefits of the sports, which provides the contents for writing.  Students will know more about some high-class expressions to replace the simple ones. 2. Teaching activities: Teacher’s activities  First, the teacher shows a video about the sports to lead in the topic. And at the same time, ask students to prepare the answers for the question: what is your favorite sport and why do you like it?  Ask students to work in groups to brain storm the sports they like and the reasons why they like them. After the discussion, the teacher ask the students to give their own answers.  The teacher help correct and provide more answers with high-class expressions by orally speaking and might write on the blackboard if necessary. Students’ activities  Watch a video about the sports and think about the question raised by the teacher.  Work in groups: students of 4 people work in a group and brain storm the sports they like and the reasons why they like them. After the discussion, students will show their own answer to the whole class.  Students write down the high-class expression provided by the teacher. [Sample] Students’ answer: My favorite sport is basketball / swimming / golf / yoga…. I like playing football / table tennis / badminton …most. I like … because it is good to our health. … it is beneficial to our health. To work with others. To cooperate with team members. Step 2 8 min While-writing Step 3 15 min 1. Goals  Students are able to write an article about their favorite sports. 2. Teaching activities Teacher’s activities  Ask students to write an article about their favorite sports. At the meantime, teacher will give students the criteria of writing this article. Students’ activities  Pay attention to the criteria given by the teacher.  Write an article about their favorite sports. (问题或材料) Criteria 1. You should mention your favourite sport clearly. 2. You should mention at least three reasons why you like this kind of sport. 3. You should use the linking words teacher has mentioned in the class. 4. You should try to use the high-class words in the article. 5. You should pay attention to the grammar and spelling. 6. You should pay attention to your hand-writing. 1. Goals  To pick and modify a student’s article with whole class( a student who does well in English ). 2. Teaching activities Teacher’s activities  Pick and modify a well-done article and highlight the good point. Students’ activities  Modify the article with the teacher.  Learn some good point from the article.  Remind themselves to avoid the same mistake.
